COPENHAGEN AND TANZANIA SINCE 2015
About us
Jengo is a volunteer-run non-profit organisation based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since 2015, we have worked with partners and communities in Tanzania to develop practical responses to social and environmental challenges. Our role is to connect people, knowledge and resources so that locally shaped ideas can grow into lasting solutions.
Our mission
Our mission is to empower communities to create sustainable change. We believe lasting progress begins with local knowledge, shared ownership and the capacity to act.
Jengo = build
"Jengo" means "build" in Swahili - a name that reflects our commitment to building skills, partnerships and locally led solutions that help communities adapt to climate change and meet social needs.
Bottom-up social innovation
Jengo uses a bottom-up approach to social innovation: solutions are shaped with the people who experience the challenges first-hand. We bring communities, volunteers and partners together to test practical ideas, share knowledge and build local capacity.
Our work spans clean energy, water, health, education, sustainable land use and human rights, with technology used where it can strengthen access, participation and social cohesion.
